Happy Dances and Pirate Treasures

I have to admit that this amazingly beautiful journey I’m on because of Unique Pl8z has been one helluva roller coaster ride!    I’ve been happy, sad, {stressed to the max}, overwhelmed, humbled, thankful, excited, and blessed.  I’ll never forget the absolute excitement I felt when I made my first sale on Etsy!  My very un-coordinated self broke into a Happy Dance like you’ve never seen, and that caused my kids to break out into an uncontrollable laughter and a happy dance all their own.

Now I have to admit, although I am {{beyond extremely}} thankful for each and every sale, I do not break into happy dances with each sale anymore.  Much to my kids dismay{{!!}}

One thing that does get me wigglin’ and jigglin … (oh, and I do mean jigglin’)… is that moment that the kids and I find a beautiful piece of sea glass or amazing sea shell while strolling the beaches on this gorgeous island!  We are so fortunate to be able to collect such awesome treasures, and we seriously have collected tons of it now.

While we don’t exactly have the room for all this sea glass in our house, we just can’t seem to stop searching for and collecting it either.  It’s a super fun hobby that allows us to imagine, explore, and create some pretty cool family memories………………….. {{wigglin’ and jigglin’ included}}

That is how we came up with the idea of Team Sea Glass.  The kids are now selling pieces of their pirate treasures and our vast sea glass collection on Etsy!!!   All the sea glass you will see in their store  has been collected by us and is real, genuine, surf-tumbled sea glass from the beautiful beaches in Okinawa, Japan!  All the sea glass is crafters grade and will be a perfect addition to your beach decor or makes a wonderful supply for all your beach crafting needs!

We hope you take a look around their shop and maybe share it with a friend or two.  Buyers must be warned… each sale comes with lots and lots and lots of happy dances!!  Ben and Sarah collage

I’d rather be lucky…

Myhusband always says  …”I’d rather be lucky than good any day!” At first I chuckled, but I am slowly realizing how true that statement really is.

If it weren’t for luck I would not have met my husband. and if it weren’t for luck {and a little bit of timing}, Unique Pl8z would never have been born!

Unique Pl8z was honestly sort of an accident.

While owning a very successful consignment store in Virginia; my husband came home from work with news that would change our lives forever. As a military family we are accustomed to change, however, I never expected a move to Kadena Air Base, in Okinawa Japan. I quickly had to sell my store, and frantically pack up our house so that the moving company could ship our belongings to the other side of the world….It was exhausting!

My husband’s job with the Air Force was going to have him traveling for the first 6 months we would be in Okinawa, so we decided that the kids and I would stay with family in Rhode Island until Christmas.   It was so wonderful to spend quality time with the people who meant the most to me, and I was finally able to enjoy my hobby of consignment and estate sale shopping.  I’ve always had a passion for creating something new from the old.

While cleaning up around the garage; my dad was getting rid of some old license plates that my grandfather had collected.  I quickly stopped him.  I immediately had the idea that I could do something with them.  So I cleaned them, cut them up, and turned them into one of a kind signs and gave them to family and friends as Christmas presents.

One of my very first signs!

I haven’t looked back since.

I am so thankful that luck is on my side!

my newest sign

Hello World…. its just me!

   Well helloooo there!  My name is Nicole, and I am new to this whole “blogging” thing!  While I am so terrified to enter blog land, I already have a feeling I’m going to love it here!  I wanted to start a blog in  hopes to share some of my story with the world.  I have been to some really cool places, ( I am currently living in Okinawa, Japan!) I have started a pretty awesome new business, and my crazy kids and husband keep me laughing, and I wanted to share it all!  I  hope you find some of what I have to say humorous, enlighting, fun or crazy!  I hope you hang on and enjoy the ride with me!  ~Really, I’m serious,  you should hang on because I am a terrible driver~ {photos to come in later posts!}

I have landed here in blog land due to my hobby turned small business (small being a relative term!). You see, I make custom license plate art… each sign is handmade by me, using real pre-loved license plates from all over the United States!  I started making these signs last Christmas as little gifts for family and friends and I haven’t looked back!  I am so blessed and so thankful for the opportunity to create and share my passion for handmade recycled art!

I am terrified and excited to take this step into blogging about my business, my life here in Okinawa, my life as a military wife, and my life as a mom of two great and crazy kids!  I am so thankful for the connections I have already made here on island and online, and I look forward to all the relationships I am about to make!  So thanks for stopping by, and I hope to get to know you better soon!
